Hayes Valley's vibrant central green — rotating public art, a playground, and surrounding cafes and shops.

Patricia's Green is the heart of Hayes Valley, built on land freed when the Central Freeway came down after the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. Today it's a 1-acre park with a children's playground, generous lawn, and — most famously — rotating large-scale public art (often Burning Man alumni installations). The park is surrounded by some of the city's best cafes, boutiques, and ice cream (Smitten).

🌉 Why Locals Go Here

It transformed a freeway scar into one of the most charming public spaces in the city.

What to Expect

Stroller crews, art installations, brunch crowds.

💡 Good to Know Before You Go

Smitten Ice Cream, Ritual Coffee, and Souvla all sit on the perimeter.

📍 Local Tip

Walk the perimeter for a perfect Hayes Valley shopping/eating loop.

Best Time to Visit

Saturday afternoons.
