🦅 Wildlife

A creek-bottom canyon trail in the El Moro section of Crystal Cove State Park, climbing inland from PCH.

The El Moro Canyon Trail starts from the Crystal Cove State Park El Moro entrance and runs inland up the canyon bottom, with the option to climb to the ridge network via connector trails. Lower stretches are mostly shaded and gentle; upper sections climb hard onto the Moro Ridge system. It's the bread-and-butter access route into the El Moro backcountry — flexible enough for a short out-and-back or a serious ridge loop.

🌟 Why Locals Go Here

Easy in, hard out (if you want it). The canyon bottom is a calm starter; the ridges are a real workout.

What to Expect

Wide fire road in the lower canyon, narrowing as it climbs. Some shade in the lower sections; ridge connectors are exposed.

💡 Good to Know Before You Go

State park day-use fee. Bring more water than you expect for any ridge add-on.

📍 Local Tip

If the El Moro lot is full on weekends, there's overflow parking down PCH — don't give up too quickly.

October through May.
