Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
Over 1,300 acres of restored coastal wetlands across PCH from Bolsa Chica State Beach — one of the largest saltwater marshes left in Southern California.
🌟 Why Locals Go Here
Genuine wild coastal wetland five minutes from one of OC's busiest beaches. Sunrise here in winter is a different planet from PCH.
What to Expect
Flat, well-marked dirt trails and footbridges over tidal channels. Bring binoculars — bird life is the headline.
💡 Good to Know Before You Go
Free entry. No bikes or dogs in the reserve. The interpretive center on Warner Avenue runs guided tours and has free trail maps.
📍 Local Tip
Park at the main Pacific Coast Highway lot for the lower loop, or off Warner Avenue for the higher Mesa overlooks — different reserve, basically.
Best Time to Visit
October through April for peak bird migration. Sunrise is unreal.
