Lovers Point Beach
Pacific Grove's postcard cove — calm water, kelp gardens, and the gentlest beach on the Peninsula
Sheltered, scenic, and softly beautiful — the Peninsula's most beloved pocket cove.
Lovers Point sits at the heart of Pacific Grove's coastline, a small protected cove tucked into the rocks where the water turns turquoise on a clear morning. The little beach is one of the few genuinely swimmable spots on the cold Monterey Bay, with a sheltered inlet, a grassy bluff-top park, and a beach café perched above the sand. Magenta carpets of ice plant bloom along the bluffs in spring, and the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail runs right past it.
🏠 Why locals love it
Locals come at first light when the cove is glassy and the kelp beds glow gold. It's the Peninsula's go-to family beach — calm, shallow, and walkable from downtown Pacific Grove. The bluff park is a favorite for picnics and the spring 'Magic Carpet' ice plant bloom.
✈️ Why visitors should go
It's the prettiest small cove on the Monterey Peninsula and one of the rare spots where you can actually wade into the bay. The setting — rocks, kelp, turquoise water, and a Victorian town behind you — is pure Central Coast.
