Hansen Dam Recreation Area is one of the largest park properties in the City of Los Angeles, spanning hundreds of acres in the northeast San Fernando Valley. The area includes Hansen Dam Lake (a popular fishing spot), the Hansen Dam Aquatic Center with a swim lake, a 9-hole golf course, equestrian facilities, sports fields, and miles of trails through open chaparral. The dam itself was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1940 for flood control.
