An easy 0.5-mile interpretive loop behind the Big Bear Discovery Center — perfect for families and first-time mountain visitors.

The Nature Discovery Trail is an easy 0.5-mile loop directly behind the Big Bear Discovery Center on the north shore. Interpretive signs explain the high-elevation forest, local wildlife, and the ecology of the San Bernardino National Forest. It's flat, well-maintained, and ideal for kids, grandparents, and anyone wanting a quick taste of the forest without a full hike.

🌟 Why Locals Love It

It's the warm-up to everything. Locals send out-of-town family here first to acclimate to the elevation.

What to Expect

A short flat loop with interpretive signs, pines, and a meadow. Easy underfoot, plenty of benches.

💡 Good to Know Before You Go

Park at the Big Bear Discovery Center — restrooms, water, and visitor info are right there. Free.

📍 Local Tip

Stop inside the Discovery Center first for a map of every trail on the north shore.
