🏔️ Viewpoint

Classic 5-mile round-trip north-shore hike through Jeffrey pine and juniper to a Pacific Crest Trail junction.

Cougar Crest Trail is the north shore's signature hike — about 5 miles round-trip (2.5 miles each way) climbing from the trailhead near the Big Bear Discovery Center through Jeffrey pine and pinyon-juniper forest up to a saddle that connects directly to the Pacific Crest Trail. Steady, moderate grade with sweeping valley and lake views from the top. Hikers can extend their day by continuing onto the PCT in either direction.
